Joe Humphries Memorial Trust will be releasing press coverage about ‘our’ defibrillator. Rothley Bowls Club and Tennis Club jointly purchased the defibrillator and paid for the installation. JHMT kindly donated the casing as we positioned it outside the gates thus allowing public access 24/7. JHMT also provide training free of charge. A number of our members have undertaken this training but ALL members are encouraged to attend a training course.
Here is a photograph that will be included in the Press release.
We are holding an open afternoon from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday 28th May to encourage new members.
All members encouraged to take part for some if not all of the session. Donations of raffle prizes would be appreciated and CAKE of course!
Casual dress and we hope to have some friendly competition!
There will be notice on the board for you to indicate your time slot
Well the weather was kinder than it has been but still a little cool and cloudy. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we had a wonderful Carrot and Walnut cake. Thanks Lynn. Yummy scrummy.
Thanks Nicola for the photos.
Last but certainly no least, thanks Bert and the green team. Green looked and played great.
We will be holding an OPEN DAY on Sunday April 16th 2023, 1pm to 4pm. This event is held to attract new members – bring along family and friends for them to have a try, EVERYONE welcome. ALL YOU NEED IS A PAIR OF FLAT SHOES AND ENTHUSIASM!
“Over the Winter, the Maintenance teams have not been as busy on the Green as last year. A lot of this was due to the Green being frozen, or too wet to work on. However, we are now very close to the Green opening, and the playing season starting. With this in mind, we undertook a Spring Maintenance day last Friday. Seven of us attended. Several people could not come because of very good reasons, but they were there in spirit.
On the day, heavy showers were forecast for 2 pm, so we started at 9 am. The work involved scarifying, clearing the moss, cutting, spiking, fertilising, edge trimming, clearing ditches and putting the mats back in.
As the Co-Ordinator for the group, I was very pleased about how many people turned up, their commitment, and the spread of skills across the team.
We did hit a slight problem with a drain valve on the Water tank for the Sprinkler system developing a leak. We are anticipating fixing this imminently, but given the weather, the Green is not currently crying out to be watered.
I want to single out two people from the team for special mention. The first is Ian, for his immaculate timekeeping. The second is David, for his immaculate and hypnotic command of Big Bertha, our motorised Spiker. Well done both, and thank you to all the team for their work, time and commitment. Remember, we can always use more volunteers.
…and yes, we did finish before the skies opened.
Yes its the long awaited rematch!
All welcome, bowlers and non-bowlers alike. Just need flat shoes as all other equipment will be provided.
Please let Paul Weston know you wish to attend by 14th March. This is for catering purposes. Cobs and tea and coffee will be available for a small cost. Last time we hired it cost each participant £4 for the 4 hour session. (will depend on how many attend!)
Fixtures now available. They are subject to change and are looking to find 2 Saturday friendlies.
Please see Social events for details.
Please book
Sadly we have had to cancel to quiz on the 10th December due to both lack of teams registering and clash with England’s match. We hope to rearrange shortly and would welcome everyone’s support
Fifteen Rothley members and guests enjoyed 4 hours of Short Mat Bowls with lunch and mince pies. They stick a piece of wood in the most aimed at place! Just for the record the women beat the men by 15 shots! Thank you Goodwood and Paul for organising. We will be doing that again!
