Call for volunteers from Bert to help look after the green

At Friday’s meeting at the Rothley Centre, we decided that once John and Martin leave, we would look to set up a working rota for mowing the Green. Given that Martin and John have indicated that they would finish at the end of the month, we need to get a group of volunteers together to take on this task, and perhaps more importantly to get them to show all of us how to use the mower and roller.

The discussion at the meeting was that unless we are able to mow the Green ourselves, then the Club would not be able to find the money to do so. Occasional specialist maintenance may need to be contracted out, but weekly mowing is something that we are going to have to sustain amongst members. The grass needs to be mown at a minimum of once per week in the playing season and probably once per week until November.

In addition to this, Martin has offered to lead a scarifying party, which is likely to be done at fairly short notice as it is dictated by the weather around the middle of this month. We will need a group of volunteers for this as well.

It is critical that we are able to maintain and sustain this work as some other clubs do. It is not a job I can do on my own.

With this in mind, please get back to me either by email or phone to let me know what you can offer so that I can arrange a mower tutorial with Martin as well as getting a rota together. If we cannot get enough people together, the problem will need to go back to the Committee/Chair.

Thank you in advance for your help
